ANDERS SUNNA REPRESENTED BY LARKIN DUREY

SUNNA’S WORK WILL FEATURE ON THE GALLERY BOOTH AT THE ARMORY SHOW IN SEPTEMBER. HIS FIRST EXHIBITION AT THE GALLERY WILL OPEN IN OCTOBER.

The gallery is delighted to announce representation of Anders Sunna, a member of the indigenous Sámi peoples. His work chronicles the ongoing persecution of the Sámi by the Swedish authorities and his family’s struggle for the right to practice reindeer husbandry and protect their way of life, traditions and beliefs. For Sunna, art is “a weapon in the political struggle” and essential to the Sámi resistance. His paintings, sculptures and installations depict brutal scenes of colonial violence: land theft, police harassment, displacement and environmental destruction, forcing the political perpetrators into the public eye.

Sunna was one of three artists included in The Sámi Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2022. His work features in the collections of the Nasjonalmuseet, Oslo, Norway, the Sami Art Collection, RiddoDuottarMuseat, Karasjok and the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Sunna's work will feature on the gallery booth at The Armory Show in September.

We look forward to the artist's first solo exhibition at the gallery in October.
