Leonce Raphael Agbodjelou's 'Demoiselles de Porto-Novo' and 'Borderlands' series have been featured in the exhibition catalogue, Witness: Afro Perspectives from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection. The catalogue was published in conjuction with the exhibtion of the same name, guest curated for El Espacio 23 by Tandazani Dhlakama who collaborated with the Pérez Collection especially. The selected works are coupled with a biography of the artist and observations on how his practice testifies to the theme of 'witnessing'.
Addressing themes of systematic oppression, intergenerational trauma, syncretism, identity and territory, the catalogue invites visitors to be present in the current moment and bear witness to challenges carried from one generation to another.
